School Board Names 3 Finalists for Next District Superintendent

TREYNOR, IA — The Treynor Community School District School Board has named three finalists for the district’s next superintendent.

The finalists are Dr. Joel Beyenhof, Dennis McClain, and Shawn Kreman. Each has demonstrated an ability to effectively manage district resources, build school and community relations, operate with integrity, and develop a vision for their leadership.

Dr. Beyenhof is the current principal of Lewis Central High School, a position he has held since 2012. His leadership of the school has included creating a vision of academic success for all students, managing the school’s budget, prioritizing student achievement, leading professional development, and engaging in community outreach. Previously, he was a middle school principal in the Council Bluffs Community School District.

McClain serves as the shared superintendent for the Adair-Casey CSD and Guthrie Center CSD. There, he has led the implementation of standards-based grading and learning, facilitated the building of a new high school fitness center, and wrote the districts’ return to learn plan during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also served in leadership roles with the Rural School Advocates of Iowa, Superintendents Finance & Leadership Consortium, and School Administrators of Iowa.

Shawn Kreman currently serves as the superintendent for West Lyon CSD. His previous experience includes serving as an industrial arts teacher and coach, 9-12 principal for Oakland-Riverside Schools and 7-12 principal for Marengo from 2009-2018. His leadership accomplishments include earning multiple grants, partnerships around workplace learning and career academy and implementation of the Positive Behavior Intervention Support program.

The School Board has been working with Grundmeyer Leader Services to conduct the superintendent search. As a next step, the board and stakeholder interview teams will conduct final interviews with each of the three finalists the week of May 2. The board will then discuss the candidates and reach a final decision shortly after the formal interviews. The new superintendent will then be invited to be part of the high school principal hiring process.

The new superintendent will officially begin leading the Treynor Community School District on July 1, 2022.
