Spreading JOI
The Junior Optimist International (JOI) Club student group recently coordinated a kickoff event for the year and saw over 90 students come to the informational meeting the first week of school. The first official meeting took place on September 3rd followed by a tie-blanket making project. Twenty blankets were made after the meeting and were subsequently delivered by the officers to Children's Hospital on Wednesday, September 24th. The officers this year are President Senior Molly Coffman, VP Senior Ellie Kinsella, Treasurer Senior Dane Guttau, Secretary Sophomore Will Mass and Historian/Understudy Sophomore Violet Wellman.
In August, the officers meet to plan the events for the year and it was decided that the group would meet on the first Wednesday of the month after school. Events planned for this year include tie-blanket project, Trunk or Treat, Veterans Day support, Community Christmas assistance to JTW, New Visions Homeless shelter "adopt-a-child" project which involves all MS-HS students & teachers, assisted living BINGO, Trunk or Treat, hygiene bags for the homeless, SOUPer bowl food drive collection, New Visions Shoe Drive, Teacher appreciation, and Mulch Madness help. The officers plan to attend the Iowa JOI Convention in March of 2026, to meet with other clubs and support Iowa JOI Club Officer elections, of which Molly Coffman is Lt. Governor.
JOI Club also serves as the parent group of the Treynor Keep Kids Alive Drive 25 Club, which is a student-led organization that coordinates safe driving initiatives. The current KKAD25 President is Taryn White, VP is Anne Miller, Delaney Walker serves as Secretary and Mackenzi Robbins & Anna Weiss are council. The group is served by JOI Club Sponsor Shelly Bailey, who acts as the KKAD25 Treasurer.
The next event of the JOI Club will be a bake sale at the Treynor Farmer's Market on Tuesday, September 30th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Come out and buy some baked goods from our students. Free will donations will also be accepted to help us fund our projects to help others.
