Weekly Letter from the Superintendent

Parents,

As we finish up this week of school I wanted to take some time and share with you some of my professional and personal thoughts about the power of communication.  Hopefully you have noticed the priority that our school administrators and staff have placed on communication with our weekly newsletters, social media posts, and much more.  I know there are times that it may seem like a lot and we most definitely don’t want to overload you with communication, but we have a priority to keep you informed and share our celebrations.

For many school communities communication is the start to build strong parent and community support.  Unlike some districts, we are very blessed to already have a tremendous amount of parent and community support.  Your support is evident in a variety of ways: attendance at school activities (fine arts and athletics), attendance at school events, and the priority you place on our students to do their best.  To move from support to involvement we must keep you informed about not only what is happening, but those instructional activities that are happening within our schools and those that your children will be expected to do outside of school.  This information, in most cases, does not require you to take on the role of an educator, but does provide you the information to have meaningful conversations with your child about what and how they are learning.  These purposeful conversations send a clear message to your child that you care, you are there to help if needed, and ultimately that you know what they should be doing and that brings with it accountability.  Without an emphasis on communication, parents and community members only have enough information to ask only open ended questions.  With the information you get from our school leaders and staff, we hope you are better equipped to ask more detailed follow up questions.  These well informed follow up questions, and conversations that follow, take your involvement as a parent to another level and one that has a great impact for your child and for our work as a school to help them to learn and grow.  This level of involvement, one equipped with the knowledge from our communication, puts us all on the same page to help your child do their very best in and out of school.

School communication is not all about academics and learning, it is also about celebrations.  To this end we try to also keep you informed of what is not only happening at school, but also after the school day in our various activities.  More often than not, these highlights and celebrations are shared on our social media platforms and can be great ways to see our students showing their school spirit and the involvement of many of our students within our activities.  At the end of this communication you will see some of the addresses for our social media presences so you can stay current on some of these celebrations and information.

Our school district success is in large part a result of your support and our continued growth will be dependent on your involvement with students.  To this end we need to provide you the information you need to support our mantra of Excellence is Expect and Excellence is Achieved and share with you those achievements of excellence from our students.

Thank you for your support and the time you take to stay informed through our communications.
