Classroom Grants Awarded for 25-26
We are excited to announce that through the generosity of an anonymous donor that provided $10,000.00 for a matching challenge for the Treynor Community School Foundation’s Classroom Grant we raised $20,000.00. Because of this we were able to award classroom grants to enhance academic achievement for PreK-12 students, families, and the staff of the Treynor Community School District for the 2025-2026 school year. Grants could be submitted requesting up to $500 to provide funding for “extras” for a classroom or student, such as field trips, career tours, supplies, unique classroom needs, and equipment. The goal is that these resources will enrich learning experiences and empower teachers to implement creative ideas that enhance educational excellence in and outside the classroom. The grant applications were reviewed on a competitive basis, with priority based on impact to student learning and district goal alignment.
Project proposals are limited to Certified Staff of Treynor Community School District. Projects had to: (1) be age appropriate, (2) enhance the learning experience in the classroom, (3) align with the instructional goals and mission of the District, (4) include measurable outcomes, and (5) meet district guidelines for acceptable furniture and supported technology (if applicable).
We are excited to announce that 8 teacher grant applications were selected to support activities and experiences for students in the 2025-2026 school year. Here is a little bit more about each of the grants selected:
- Kendall King - Flexible Grouping Furniture for Students
- “This grant will help me provide a more welcoming and comfortable work environment for my students because I can purchase more flexible seating for them to use. Elementary students are very active and do not always sit for long periods well, so having these seating options allows them to work in a more relaxed way. I have some flexible seating options currently, but thanks to this grant I will be able to add more options as well as replace the old or broken ones I currently have.”
- Jane Leick - Model of Head and Neck
- “I was fortunate to receive a grant to purchase a head and neck model for my classroom. Having this model will add a tangible dimension that is currently lacking with my A/P and Sports Medicine students in this particular anatomical area. When students are studying different areas of the body, images only go so far, and this will help connect their learning further, by seeing how the structures are aligned on a 3D life-like model. Thank you very much to the Treynor School Foundation for the support!”
- Missy Magill - Student Collaboration Supports/Tools
- “I am so excited to bring fun new tools into our kindergarten classroom! These will give my students exciting, hands-on opportunities to learn and grow.”
- Erin Mrsny - Flexible Grouping Furniture for Students
- “Through the Treynor School Foundation Classroom Grant, I was able to apply for six portal tables for my students. In my fifth grade classroom, which houses three classes of science and social studies, the students are constantly building, creating, or working in small teams. These tables will give students freedom to meet somewhere neutral, clear, and portable within the classroom. The tables can be put up or taken down with ease. The tables also have adjustable heights to meet the needs of all students. I truly appreciate this grant money and the opportunity it will provide my future students.”
- Kristin Mundorf - Interactive Phonics Boards
- “Receiving this grant for manipulative phonics boards is an incredible opportunity for our Title I students. These hands-on instructional materials will not only strengthen phonics and phonemic awareness instruction during classroom instruction but also include a take-home component to support families in continuing literacy development at home. The project directly supports foundational reading skills - helping students to become fluent readers who can comprehend and enjoy text. By engaging students in structured, tactile learning experiences, we are building confident readers where every student has the tools they need to succeed.”
- Andrea Saar - Flexible Grouping Furniture for Students and Math Manipulatives
- “This grant will allow my students to move freely about the room with comfort when the time is right. Kids have a hard time staying at a desk all day sometimes and this will make daily life in the classroom more fun and flexible! The fraction manipulatives give my students an easy way to visualize amounts under a whole that they have a hard time grasping. I appreciate the support from the community to make these things possible.”
- Shantelle Vohs - Desk Pets
- “I am excited to have received this grant for desk pets in my classroom. It really teaches the students so many different skills and it's something they love! I am thrilled to be able to continue this with my future students.”
- Jennifer Young - Preschool Sandbox
- “A great deal of learning and development can take place during sand play. The addition of a sandbox to our PreK learning environment will aid students with physical, cognitive, social-emotional and sensory development. I thank the Treynor Schools Foundation for this gift to our youngest learners.”
- Total awarded: 8 grants for $3,540.03
As you can see from the teachers’ quotes the donations to the Treynor School Foundation Classroom Grant are going to great use and will be a great addition for these teachers’ students.
