Lea Hartigan Inducted into HOF
Lea Hartigan, a 2007 Treynor High School graduate, was inducted into the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Hall of Fame on Friday, November 15th prior to the start of the Class 4A state volleyball championship match. Lea was a standout athlete all four years of her prep career, reaching the state tournament each year. She went on to play volleyball at Wayne State College where she helped them reach the NCAA Division II tournament four times.
While at Wayne State College, Lea majored in Sports Management and Business Administration with a coaching minor. After graduating college, she coached collegiate volleyball for eight years. She recently moved back to the area to be closer to family and works at Applied Underwriters as a workers compensation claims adjuster. When asked to reflect on her past success and this Hall of Fame award, Lea replied "Obviously this award would not be possible if I didn't have great athletes on the team with me in my four years. I also think a huge part of my success was growing up as a gym rat and being able to be at practices every day after elementary school and practicing against the wall or watching the athletes practice who I looked up to so much and idolized as a kid. Watching all of those prior teams compete at the state tournament year after year helped me as well because by the time I got to high school, making the state tournament wasn't just a goal it was an expectation." When asked for advice to current Treynor students and athletes, she said "put in the hard work and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Success is not easy but the reward seeing your hard work become success is definitely worth it."
Congratulations to Lea Hartigan on this prestigious award. We are proud to call her a Cardinal alumni!
