HS Jazz Band Qualifies for IJC

The High School Jazz Band placed first at the WIC Jazz Festival, received a Division I rating at State Jazz Festival for the 28th consecutive year, and first place at the Southwest Iowa District Jazz Festival, qualifying for the Iowa Jazz Championships for the 28th straight time.  Iowa Jazz Championships (IJC) will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Ames.

This year the band is playing: " A Little Minor Setback" by Rick Lawn, "The Light Still Lingers" by Tom Kubis, and "Sabor de Cuba" by Victor Lopez.  The band will also be adding a fourth chart for the IJC festival. Band members include Sarah Gann on flute; Quinn Navara, Molly Griffin, Brendan Mass, Logan Young, and Broc Livengood on saxaphone; Kyle Christensen, Derrick Thompson, Blake Sadr, Allison Green, Tyler Pollock, and David Gann on trumpet; Ryan Danker, William Thompson, Gabe Travis, and Alex Lowe on trombone; Miranda Becker on piano; Joe Lake on bass guitar; Will Halverson on drums; Thomas Schechinger  on guitar and Anna Halverson on percussion.

Other results from Monday's District Jazz Festival include:

HS Jazz Ensemble: 5th Place

8th Grade Jazz Band:  1st Place

7th Grade Jazz Band: 3rd Place
