Jump/Shoot Hoops for Heart Event
The Treynor Dance Team is coordinating a fundraiser for the American Heart and American Stroke Association. The elementary students will be invited to collect donations and then participate in a Jump for Heart activity during the school day on Tuesday February 12. Prior to the event elementary students will learn about heart disease and strokes. Middle school students at Treynor will also be encouraged to collect donations and participate in a Shoot Hoops for Heart during the school day on Friday February 15th. Students that are successful in raising $100 in donations will be given the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of a teacher or dance team member.
The elementary students have identified the goal of raising $5,000 and the middle school students have a goal of raising $2,000 total. If the students reach their building goal the principals have both agreed to “kiss a pig”. Thank you to Mr. Larsen and Mrs. Berens for being such good sports!
All of the donations that are raised by the Treynor students will be given in honor of Alex Hahn and Mr. Dan Vorthmann. Alex is a senior at the high school who suffered a stroke earlier in the winter. He is back at school and moving towards full recovery. Mr. Dan Vorthmann is married to Dana and parent of 4th grader Devin, along with his siblings and former graduates Vanessa and Morgan. Mr. Vorthmann suffered a stroke earlier in December and is currently working through rehabilitation. We wish the best for these two individuals as they deal with the challenges of recovery. Our donations will be given in their honor and used towards research and improving the quality of life for stroke survivors.
