New Business Venture Benefits Learning and a Student's Medical Needs

During the second semester, the Entrepreneurship and Marketing classes joined together to begin a new business called the "Cardinal Cart." The Cardinal Cart sold snacks and drinks that fit the school's healthy guidelines during Card Pride time to students.  This hands-on project was meant to be a great learning experience; however,it turned into an even greater giving experience.

Under the guidance of the high school business teacher, Mrs. Travis, the students were responsible for making decisions in various phases of business, including planning, preparation, marketing, selling, and evaluation for the Cardinal Cart.  Students developed the product line, set prices based on costs and demand, and created a marketing plan. From their sales and financial records, they did weekly evaluations to monitor their performance and make changes, if necessary. In addition to managing the business, they prepared the food (popcorn and cookies) and were responsible for set-up and clean-up. Labor needs were distributed among all class members.

This business venture turned out to be more than just a learning experience; it was an opportunity to help another student in need at the high school.  Originally, the profits were going to purchase new equipment for the business classes.  Instead, the vote was unanimous to give the amount of $500 to the Ellen Campbell fund, a student who is recovering from a severe car accident just weeks ago.

Students involved in the Cardinal Cart business project were Sarah Duysen, Michael Godfrey, Emma Kaeding, Tanner Kaeding, Travis Manzer, Trey Robinson, and Steph Sudan. Thanks to all the students who purchased items from the Cardinal Cart... they, too, are part of this gift to Ellen's fund.
