Coach Hartigan Celebrates 700th Win

Unless you're living under a rock, you probably already know that Coach Gail Hartigan celebrated her 700th win Saturday night during a home game against Audubon. As luck would have it (if you call weather postponing a game luck), the Audubon game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 24th ended up being delayed until Saturday, January 28th. Had we played Audubon on Tuesday, Coach Hartigan's 700th win would have been on Friday, January 27th at Tri-Center. Coach is not one for any sort of fanfare or recognition, so I am sure she would have been more than happy with that, but everyone in Treynor and Southwest Iowa is happier that the celebration was a little more special being able to celebrate it at home.

Accolades poured in all over social media Saturday night after this 700th win. Kelly Lindberg stated "Congratulations Coach Hartigan. The lessons you have taught so many Treynor youth extend far beyond the girls you have coached, and well beyond the court. Enjoy the moment!" Coach's friend, Deb Schmidt, posted to Facebook on Saturday: "Tonight we celebrated the fact that her coaching legacy includes 700 winning girls' basketball games. But her legacy goes far beyond that. She is the perfect blend of tough and tender. I have seen her yell to spur kids on to bigger achievements and I have seen her tear up at the mention of a hurting kid...she will always be "Coach" to dozens of young women across SW Iowa. (She will also hate the fact that I posted this because she is very modest and hates attention)."  So to someone who dislikes the attention, congratulations Coach!!

The Daily Nonpareil article and WOWT's news video from Saturday and article from Sunday can be viewed for more quotes and insight into this fine accomplishment.

With this win, the team moves to 17-0. The Cardinals have a very busy week ahead with all home games this week. They will face Logan-Magnolia on Tuesday, January 31st, Griswold on Thursday, February 2nd and Missouri Valley on Friday, February 3rd. Post-season play begins Feburary 11th with Treynor having a first-round bye. Click here to view the brackets (scroll down to Region 2 for Treynor).
