All Out - All Game - All Season

Softball Highlights

7/1/18 - In the past couple of weeks, the softball team has chalked up 9 wins and 2 losses, to create an impressive regular season record of 22-4. On June 15th at home against Riverside, the team brought in 12 runes to the Bulldogs' 6. Pitching all 7 innings with 7 K's was Sydni Huisman. Leading in the runs column was Alyssa with 3, followed by Kaylee, Bella, Reagan and Keelea with 2 each. The next three games were 10-0 shutouts -- at Underwood on the 19th, against Griswold at home on the 21st and against Missouri Valley at home on the 22nd. On June 23rd, the team played in a Council Bluffs tournament and was defeated by Lewis Central 3-5, but went on to defeat Abraham Lincoln 10-0 and Red Oak 5-3.  On June 26th, in the WIC Tournament, the Cardinals defeated The Wheelers 11-1, but Logan Mangolia was too much for the team in the WIC tournament on the 28th, allowing 13 runs for the Panthers. On Saturday, June 30th, the Cardinals defeated East Sac County 10-0 and was slated for the Championship round after also outscoring Kuemper Catholic 6-5; however, storms prevented the final game. This tournament closed out the regular season.

6/15/18 - Six wins have been added to the record for the ladies since last week. On Thursday, June 7th, the team defeated the Big Beds on Missouri Valley's field 13-1. Scoring was evenly spread out among the team, with Kaylee and Stella each scoring 2 runs. One run each was scored by Alyssa, Tori, Reagan, Mandy, Jessica, Jordan, Alexis, Keelea and Josie. Sydni threw 9 strikes in 4 innings, and Bella closed out the final 2 innings with 2 strikes.  At home on Friday, the Cardinals narrowly defeated the Panthers 5-4. Sydni was impressive on the mound for all 7 innings, throwing 11 strikes. Alyssa scored 2 runs, while teammates Kaylee, Alexis and Keelea added one apiece. Read all about that event in Derek Martin's KMA articleThe team was declared Champions of the Saturday softball tournament in Van Meter on June 9th, outscoring St. Edmond 2-1 and Van Meter 8-3.  Scoring in the first game was 1 each for the Kellar sisters. Against Van Meter, the bats were alive with runs from Stella (2), Tori (2), Kaylee (1), Reagan (1), Keelea (1) and Josie (1). At home on Tuesday, June 12th, the team was victorious over AHSTW 3-0. Last evening in Tri-Center, the Cardinals defeated the Trojans 14-1.

6/7/18 - Softball season is well underway with 9 games completed thus far. Seven of those 9 can be chalked up in the win column for this hard-working team, coached by Kara Huisman. The season opener was at Logan Magnolia, where the girls enjoyed a 6-2 win over the Panthers. Junior Syndi Huisman stayed at the mound the entire game and pitched 7 strike-outs. Freshman Mandy Stogdill led team scoring with 2 runs, while Freshman Alyssa Kellar, Senior Kaylee Finnegan, Sophomore Bella Dingus, and Junior Alexis Kellar each scored 1. The next evening at home, the Cardinals hosted Audubon and had an 8-4 victory. Alyssa was hot at the bat and scored 3 runs, while teammates Sydni, Bella, Mandy and Junior Jordan Finnegan and Eighth-Grader Keelea Navara scored 1 run each. On May 25th, the team traveled to AHSTW and shut out the Vikings 12-0 in 3 innings. Bella scored 3 runs and Alyssa scored 2. Adding 1 each to the total were Kaylee, Sydni, Mandy, Keelea and Freshman Stella Umphreys, Sophomore Tori Castle and Freshman Jaiden Maguire. Saturday, May 26th was a home game with the Cardinals hosting Mount Ayr. The team was a tough opponent for the girls and they lost 3-14. Sydni pitched just over 5 innings and had 10 strike-outs. Bella closed out the game on the mound. Scoring for Treynor was Tori, Jaiden and Junior Reagan Darrah with 1 each.  Next up on the schedule was Tri-Center at home on May 29th. The Cardinals triumphed over the Trojans 12-1. Sydni was on the mound all 5 innings and threw 11 strikes. Runs scored included Alyssa with 3, Bella and Reagan with 2, and Stella, Tori, Mandy, Jordan and Alexis all with 1. To close out the busy month of May, the girls traveled to Riverside's new field on May 31st and brought home a win, outscoring the Bulldogs 8-3. Sydni pitched all 7 innings and threw 14 strikes. Bella led with 3 runs for the Cardinals, while Kaylee added 2 and teammates Stella, Tori and Jordan scored 1 apiece.

IKM-Manning made the trip to Treynor on Friday, June 1st and gave the Cardinals their 2nd loss of the season. Scoring the lone run for Treynor was Bella Dingus. Sydni had an impressive effort on the mound with 12 strikes, but it just wasn't enough to overcome the 5 runs scored by the Panthers. The Eagles of Underwood came to Treynor to square off in a WIC match-up on June 4th. Getting in the scoring bracket were Kaylee, Alyssa and Alexis with 1 run each, leading to the 3-0 victory. Sydni's lucky number was 13 on June 5th in Griswold, throwing that many strikes for the game to help lead the girls to a 15-1 victory. Alyssa and Kaylee both had a great night at bat scoring 4 and 3 runs for the Cardinals. Bella, Mandy and Alexis each had 2 runs, while Reagan and Junior Jessica Vohs each added 1 apiece.
