Science Education in Action

by Jane Leick

Sports Medicine Class Practice

In the life science world, there are a lot of fun things for students to look forward to in December.

In the sophomore Biology class, we will be tracking the traits that we’ve inherited and determining where we got them from, and educating some elementary students on it also! We will work on meiosis and creating Punnett squares from our genetic makeup.

In Anatomy/Physiology, we will be concluding our unit on bony landmarks ending with the lower extremity and students will be creating skeletons covering what we’ve learned to prepare for their final exams.

In Human Biology, our college credit science offering, we’ll be covering bones and muscles. We’ll also be researching chosen disorders that we’ve touched on over the semester and creating a more thorough investigation of them to produce an infographic detailing the research.

The slideshow to the right depicts pictures from Sports Medicine and Human Biology classes, as well as biology students conducting experiments testing hypotheses, a "Heads Up" vocabulary review game and analyzing water drops under the microscope to determine the presence of organisms.
