Olweus Bullying Prevention Program
Bullying Prevention Program begins at Treynor Community Schools
All schools deal with the issue of bullying. Treynor Community Schools is taking proactive steps to stop and prevent bullying by adopting the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. This research-based schoolwide “systems change” program has been used successfully in schools all over the country and around the world with positive results.
This program is not a curriculum that students participate in for only a few weeks. Rather, it is a coordinated effort by all the adults in the school to supervise and intervene when any bullying happens. As part of the program, students participate in weekly class meetings to learn about the effects of bullying, what they can do about it, and how they can work with adults at school to put a stop to it even as bystanders. Parents will have opportunities to attend meetings too, so they can support the messages students are getting in school. Implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is a long-term commitment to making Treynor Community Schools a safer, more positive place to be.
To kick off our Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, Treynor Community Schools hosted Josh Drean on Friday, January 9th. Josh travels internationally speaking to hundreds of schools and thousands of students each year to help them defeat bullying positively. Josh is coming to us from New York where he has helped initiate the New York Public Library Anti-Bullying Series across the state. Josh was the featured speaker at the National Conference on Bullying last year and has made appearances on NBC, Fox News and several local media outlets. Josh spoke to all students at both the elementary and MS / HS buildings as well as a small groups of leadership students following the presentation. Read the web article on Josh's visit for more information.
Information about this program and the activities associated with it will be posted to this webpage. Check back often for updates.
